Course Objectives: Principals of Technology is a high school course in applied physics for those who plan to pursue careers as technicians, such as mechanics, technicians and other such vocations. This is not a course designed for those who plan to go on to college.
Text/Material/Fee: The text used is Principals of Technology- there are five units we will cover in this course. We will cover such subjects as Force, Work, Rate, Resistance and Energy. Each student will bring daily; paper, pencil scientific calculator, textbook. A $10.00 lab fee is required.
Homework: Students will be able to do most homework in class. There will occasional homework assignments. There will also be quarterly projects assigned well in advance.
Class Rules: 1. Be courteous to the teacher and your fellow students
2. Come to class ready to work.
3. Obey the school rules.
Lab: We will have a lab approx. once a month.
Grading Procedures: Grades will be based on the following weighted percentages, based on the following grade scale.
Percentage: Participation...........30%
Homework...............30%
Tests.................40%
The grades will be based on the following scale:
100-94.....A 93-90.......A- 89-86.......B+ 85-83.......B
82-80.......B- 79-76.......C+ 75-73.......C 69-66.......D+
65-63.......D 62-60.......D- 59 and below...F
Participation Points: There will be two ways to get participation points. One is through labs, and other is through quizzes. Some quizzes will be in the form of TARDY QUIZZES. If you are late, you get a zero; if you are on time (in your seat when the bell rings), you may take the quiz for a grade. There are no makeups for missed labs or tardy quizzes, but I will drop the lowest score. Other quizzes will come at various times during the class, emphasizing that it is better to be there but late, rather than not at all. People who miss the quiz due to a school-excused absence have 24 hours to make it up. I do not take late work. Let me repeat myself, I do not take late work. If you are absent, (excused), you will have the same number of working days to make up the work that you missed while you were gone. This includes tests.
