Textbook and Materials:  The textbook we will use is Biology.  This class will require you to have a 3 ring binder (1˝ - 2 in) to keep all notes, labs, assignments and old test in.  (There will be a comprehensive exam in May.  It is strongly suggested that students keep all tests and notes to study for this exam.) In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, students needing special accommodation may contact me for alternative arrangements.

Homework:  PLAN ON IT!   The amount of homework will vary with each unit.  You should plan on at least 20 minutes a night and possibly some weekends.

Make-Up Work:  Students are expected to complete all assignments.  If a student has an excused absence, they are expected to come before or after school to find out the assignments they have missed.  If it is a planned absence, come ahead of time and pick up the work.  All make-up work must be turned in within a week of the student’s return to school. Teachers are not required to give credit for work from an unexcused or truant absence.  Students can access their grades and all missing work on the PowerSchool website.

Late Work:  The students are expected to turn in assignments when they are due.  If a student is at school and does not turn in their work it is considered late.  Late work will be accepted with a penalty up to 50%.   Assignments will not be accepted after unit test for more than 50%.  Students will be made aware of assignment due dates.

Tests:  Each chapter will contain a unit test.  The tests cover the concepts covered in class as well as in the homework.  Prior to each test the students will be given a review for the test.  It is a valuable tool to help students study for the test.  Students will not be able to retake the tests.  Students with an excused absence must take the make-up test in the testing center within one week of their return to school.  The make-up test may be different than the test given in class.

Extra Credit: May be earned by extra work academic work assigned by the teacher as well as attending or participating in extra-curricular events: however, it is not given as a last minute attempt to save a grade.

Quizzes:  There will be daily quizzes.  These will cover the prior material covered as well as the Latin/Greek prefixes and suffixes.  A tardy will result in an automatic zero on the quiz.

Tardies:  Students are expected to be in their seats with all necessary materials before the tardy bell finishes ringing.  Students will only be allowed three tardies per quarter.  On the fourth tardy, the student will receive NO CREDIT until it is made up.   Parents and students can check the number of tardies on the PowerSchool website.
