Ramage,
John D., John C. Bean, and June Johnson. The Allyn & Bacon Guide to

GRADING POLICY:
Scores
on assignments, projects, tests, quizzes, and participation will determine
grades. Homework is to be placed in the receiving box before the tardy bell
rings in order to receive credit.
The following scale shows grade breakdowns:
A 93-100% A- 90-92%
B+ 87-89% B 83-86% B- 80-82%
C+ 77-79% C 73-76% C- 70-72%
D+ 67-69% D 63-66% D- 60-62%
F Below 60%
Students
will bring an English folder, assigned text, something to write on, and
something to write with to each class.
Due dates will be posted in class, and students will be responsible for
turning in the work on or before the posted date.
All
absences must be excused for students to make up any missed work for
credit*. The day a student returns from
an excused absence, before class begins, he/she must turn in the assignment
that was due on the day of the absence.
If an assignment is given on the day of an excused absence, and is due
when the student returns, he/she has five school days to complete the missed
work before it is considered late work. Late work can only be turned in with a late
coupon. Students will receive one late coupon for each
term. Late work will only be accepted
with a late coupon attached. This late
coupon allows students to receive full credit on a late assignment. After this late coupon is used, no other late
work will be accepted. Be wise on how
you use your late coupon. All late
work is due one week before the end of the quarter. As the end of the term approaches, the due
date will be posted on the board. At the end of the term, 20 points will be
added to the grade of any student who still has his/her unused late coupon.
*Peer
responses cannot be made up. You must be in class with a polished essay to
receive credit.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
To
receive college credit, students must have a score of at least 19 on the
English and
All
school rules and policies apply in this class.
No food or drink, except clear containers with water, will be allowed in
the classroom. CD/cassette players,
headphones, cell phones, pagers, and any other disruptive or distracting items
are not allowed in class. If students use any of these items during class, I
will take the item for the rest of the school day. Students or their parents may retrieve the
item after
Only
English folders, papers, books, pens/pencils, and water are allowed at
students' desks. Students must leave their bags, purses, and personal
belongings (including cell phones) at the back of the room against the back
wall. If students worry about leaving
their personal belongings unattended, don't bring those personal items to
class.
ATTENDANCE:
I
follow the school attendance policy.
Read it in your handbook and be familiar with it. In order to earn daily participation points,
students are expected to be in class on time, and to be prepared with daily
homework assignments. Absences and
tardies are to be cleared through the attendance office only. Participation points are given for in-class
activities. These cannot be made up
except for school-excused absences.
Attendance points can be lost for inappropriate in-class behavior.
TARDIES:
Students
should make every effort to be in class on time. Students MUST be in class and seated when the
tardy bell rings to be considered on time.
Late students receive no credit for daily prompts (an activity that
begins immediately after the tardy bell).
They also will not receive full participation points for the day. There is NO makeup for tardies. If you check in, you may make up the daily prompt. If a student is able to be tardy-free
(including check ins) for the entire term, 1% will be added to his/her final
grade. Since your concurrent enrollment grade is an average of your grades all
four quarters, no extra credit will be added above a 97%.
HALL PASS:
To
enforce a positive learning environment, I need to limit the number of students
using the hall pass. Therefore, each
student is given 2 hall pass coupons at the beginning of the
quarter. For students to use the hall
pass, he/she must have a hall pass coupon.
If the student does not have a coupon, or both of them have been used,
that student will not be allowed to use the hall pass. These coupons cannot be turned in to excuse
tardies. At the end of the quarter, two unused coupons are worth 15 points and
one coupon is worth 5 points.
CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR:
Students
are expected to respect the rights of other students to learn, and to respect
the right of the teacher to teach. If a
student’s behavior infringes on these rights, the following actions will be
taken:
1.
A warning will be
given. The student will be informed that
his or her behavior is inappropriate.
2.
If the problem
persists, the student will be given a minus twenty assignment, which will be
due at the beginning of class the following day. If the assignment is completed
satisfactorily, the student’s grade will stay the same; otherwise, twenty
points will be subtracted.
3.
If problems
persist, parents/guardians will be contacted and asked to sit with the student
in class.
4.
As a final
measure, a conference will be scheduled with the parents, teacher, student, and
assistant principal to deal with the problem.
All
of these rules are at the discretion of the teacher. I look forward to having a great year with
you. We will have a lot of fun together.
Sincerely,
Miss Wilson 223-3120 ext. 609

1.
This class is a
Concurrent Enrollment course offering 3 hours of UVSC credit. If a student elects to participate, an
official UVSC transcript will be generated which is official and binding. UVSC credits are transferable to other
institutions.
2.
Students choosing
to participate must apply and request courses online at www.uvsc.edu/conted/concurr by posted deadlines in order to receive
college credit.
3.
Some UVSC
departments have placed grade level requirements for their Concurrent
Enrollment classes. Juniors and
sophomores should verify elegibility with the teacher and/or the Concurrent
Enrollment office.
4.
Generally, a 3.0
GPA is the pre-requisite for Concurrent Enrollment classes. Students must meet and submit to UVSC the
pre-requisites for math and English classes within the first two weeks of
class in order to be registered for the class and receive college credit.
These pre-requisites are listed in Patty Schradle's office at Timpanogos High
School. They are also listed on the
Concurrent Enrollment website.
5.
Final UVSC grades
will be assigned by the Concurrent Enrollment teacher. These grades will be posted at the end of the
school year. Because of the different
prodecures used to calculate grades, the UVSC grade and the high school grade
may be different.

Credits are
transferable to all colleges and universities throughout
7.
If a registered
Concurrent Enrollment student drops this high school course, the student must
also drop the corresponding UVSC course.
Students must follow the proper UVSC drop procedures by the assigned
