PORTFOLIO ORGANIZATION

·                   Each student must organize a notebook. i.e., 3-ring binder, dedicated solely to English.

o      Portfolios may be reviewed at any time; bring them to class every day.

·                   Put the disclosure document at the front of the portfolio in a sheet protector or in the front pocket of the portfolio so that it is available for reference if needed.

·                   Each portfolio should have tabbed section dividers.  The sections should be labeled as follows:

o      Handouts – On each handout, put your name and the date received.

§       Save ALL handouts.

o      Daily Notes – You should take notes every day.

o      Writing Prompts – Occasionally there may be a quiz, but most days there will be a writing prompt at the start of class.  Sometimes your writing will be collected and reviewed.  At other times it will be reviewed when the portfolios are evaluated.

o      Returned Homework, Quizzes, and Tests

o      Reading Records

o      Drafts and “final” drafts of papers

o      Thought Exercises

o      Other/miscellaneous items

·                   Portfolios will be evaluated on completeness, neatness, and organization.

·                   Portfolios are intended to help students learn organizational skills and record keeping.

·                   They also provide a way for students to recognize their accomplishments and improvements over time.
