English 10H Creative Projects

(200 points or approximately 10% of the quarter grade)

·                    Clear Purposes:  Your purposes in designing and presenting a creative project are threefold:

o       To demonstrate understanding about the course content.

o       To use your own creativity to express that understanding in a unique way.

o       To share your learning with your peers in a brief presentation (3-7 minutes) to the class.

·                    First, decide what you’d like to communicate to the class about your learning.  Then decide what and how would be the best media with which to do it.

·                    Link your creative project directly to the class content.

·                    Some options might include:

o       Create a Power Point Slide Show or a Website

o       Performance (please limit to no more than 7 minutes)

§        Dramatic interpretation of a scene from a play, novel, poem, story, etc.

§        Dramatic recitation (poetry, ballad, storytelling or performance of original song).

§        Interview (mock interview with an author or a character from the readings)

o       Adaptation of course content into another form (transmediation—play to short story, story into play, screenplay, or comic book, poems into narrative or set to original music, story into poem, history into historical fiction, etc.)

o       Drawing, painting, or other graphic representation (e.g. collage, poster) of a character, scene, event, etc. from class content.

o       Creative Writing: poetry, lyrics and music, an act or scene of a play, a short story, or a single chapter of a potential novel (Please limit creative writing to a finely crafted 700 words).

o       It’s your choice – come up with something original!

·                    I expect enough effort to earn 200 points; haphazard or last-minute work will receive only partial, if any, credit.  Expect to spend at least 3-5 hours on your creative project.

o       You may work in groups provided that the effort and product reflect full participation.

o       Failure to complete a creative project may result in an incomplete for your quarter grade.
