Ayn Rand "Anthem" Essay Contest: For 9th and 10th grade students. Prize awards vary from $30 to $2,000.  Choose from three topics regarding the Ayn Rand book, “Anthem" and write a no less than 600 to no more than 1,200 word essay. For more information see Career Center Scholarship files or Mrs. Miller or to submit essay along w/other information online go to www.aynrand.org/contests.  Applications by mail must be postmarked by Deadline: March 20, 2010.   

Symantec Software Scholarship: Symantec Corporation will award one scholarship of $10,000 at the Central Utah Science and Engineering Fair held at BYU on March 22-25, 2010. Applicant must create and enter a science project that involves computer software in their high school and District Science Fairs previous to the regional Science Fair. U of U Eugene Loh Fly’s Eye Cosmic Ray Scholarship: This multi-year tuition waiver applicant must have financial need, be a Utah resident, registered as a full-time student, be current or incoming/degree seeking U of U freshman with a declared College of Science major; preference given to Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics majors. Scholarship covers $5,000 toward in-state tuition first year, and $4,000 or more per year for the next three years. For more information and to apply online see Scholarship Opportunities link at www.science.utah.edu. Deadline: March 26, 2010.

T. H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan: This is a “loan forgiveness” program for qualified graduating seniors who will pursue a degree in education and go on to teach in Utah for a term equal to the number of years for which the loan was received.  For more information and the application see www.schools.utah.gov/cert and click on “Loans and Scholarships.”  Deadline: March 26, 2010 before 5 p.m. to the State Office of Education.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship: For high school graduates who have been accepted for enrollment at institutions of higher education, have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, and show promise of continued academic excellence may apply to states in which they are residents. Must be in top 5% of graduating class, have an ACT score of 25 or higher, a 3.7 GPA or higher, a minimum SAT score of 1940 or higher, and be a U.S. and Utah citizen and have not defaulted on any federal student loans or other obligations. The annual award is $1,500, but may change annually dependent on continued federal funding. Deadline: March 26, 2010.

College Prep Scholarships: This scholarship levels the playing field of college admissions for outstanding low-income high school juniors wanting to attend the nation’s most selective colleges. For applications and to read about the many opportunities available see: www.questbridge.org. Deadline: March 29, 2010.

U.S. Bank Internet Scholarship: Forty $1,000 scholarships awarded in a random drawing. No essays or minimum GPA required. Seniors need to apply online at www.usbank.com/studentloans by the Deadline: March 31, 2010.

Utah Association of Independent Insurance Agents Scholarship: For seniors pursuing a career in insurance or business. UAIIA is offering at least three $1,000 scholarships. Application criteria includes at least a 3.0 GPA, extra-curricular activities, a transcript, a photo, and optional financial information. Applications available at www.uaiia.org or in the Career Center Scholarship Files. Deadline: March 31, 2010.

Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship: Six $2,500 awards available for this need-based scholarship. Must be a senior, a US citizen (or permanent resident), have a 2.5 GPA or higher, with demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service and extra-curricular activities. Must submit all required application materials along with official transcript, two letters of recommendation, SAR, senior picture and essay. Provo Elks Teenager of the Year Awards: This is a $50 cash award requiring applicant to complete a simple application, submitting a small wallet photo, a transcript and one letter of recommendation. Will be judged on multiple achievements: character, leadership, service, citizenship and scholastic. For more information call Linda Gaines at 801.227.4073 or email her at LGinUTAH@peoplepc.com. Applications are in the Career Center Scholarship file and can be mailed or dropped off at Provo Elks Lodge or mailed to, "Linda Gaines/Provo Elks Lodge, PO Box 83, Provo, UT 84601." Sons of Utah Pioneers Scholarship: The $1,000 scholarship is for seniors who have shown, through specific acts in their lives, the character traits and ideals of true pioneers. Must also show they have overcome “Significant Disadvantages” such as physical, social, or economic challenges while demonstrating scholarly ability adequate for success in college.  More information and applications in the Career Center Scholarship files. Please see Mrs. Miller also. Deadline: April 1, 2010.

UCCU Be Money Smart Scholarship: One $500 scholarship will be offered to a senior at each high school in the county who is dedicated and financially smart. Criteria includes: work ethic, academic achievement, community service, club/group involvement, financial need, and a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applicants are not required to be a member of UCCU; however, membership will be taken into consideration with all other factors. To apply, go online at bemoneysmart.org. Deadline: April 1, 2010.

Utah Jump$tart Coalition/UHEAA Scholarship Essay: This essay offered by the Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority and the Utah Jump$tart Coalition requires earning points by applying for the FAFSA and admissions to a post-secondary school, successful completion or current enrollment in the required financial literacy core course for Utah HS graduation, and a 750 word essay. Two awards of $1,000 each will be awarded. Applications and more information can be found in the Career Center Scholarship files. Deadline: April 1, 2010.

Boys State - The American Legion/Weber State University: This year’s Boys State will be held June 7th through June 11th at Weber State University in Ogden.  Boys who have successfully completed their junior year in high school and plan to attend school next year as a senior will be eligible to attend.  Those attending will learn how our system of government works and about the function of city, county, and state government.  The cost is $375 and those who attend will receive three hours university credit that is generally transferable to any other state funded university.  They’re also eligible to apply for the Samsun/American Legion Scholarship.  See http://weber.edu/academicaffairs/misc/utboysstate.html for applications and more information or Career Center Scholarship files. Deadline for Boys State applications: April 1, 2010.

Utah Sports Hall of Fame: Each high school in Utah may nominate one senior boy and one senior girl athlete, going on to college, for this $2,000 scholarship. Judging based on academic scholarship, personal character, athletic involvement, and financial need. Interested students will need to submit completed applications (found in Career Center Scholarship files) to Mrs. Miller by April 2, 2010. Will need to include an official transcript and one letter of recommendation with completed application. Counseling will choose two nominees (one boy, one girl) from pool of applicants and forward their applications on to the Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation. Deadline: April 2, 2010.

Jiffy Lube "What Drives You?" Scholarships: For students ages 15-18 years old. Choose from two offered categories: "your turn behind the wheel" for driver education enrolled students and "Teen Driver" for all eligible licensed teen drivers. Must write a 500 word or less type-written essay about "What Drives You" now? The scholarship awards will not be based on a student's GPA or other standard qualifying criteria go online at www.yourturn2apply.com/utah.htm for details and applications or see the Career Center Scholarship files. Deadline: April 2, 2010.

Utah Valley Exchange Club’s “Youth of the Year” Scholarship: $1,000 for a graduating senior, who has had outstanding academic success, has given community service and been involved in student government. Must write an 800-1,200 word essay on “Inspired by the Power of Community Service.” No application to fill out. Will only need to fax, email or mail essay to Utah Valley Exchange Club c/o Tara Riddle by the Deadline: April 5, 2010. See the Career Center Scholarship files or Mrs. Miller for “sending” information. PS: Not many applied last year...your chances are good with this scholarship.

Utah Valley Exchange Club’s “ACE” Scholarship: $1,000 for a graduating senior who has overcome great physical, emotional, or social obstacles and is now eligible for high school graduation. Will need to write two 250 word narratives; first on an event or events in their life of which they are most proud, and the second on describing their plans for the future to make his/her community and world a better place. Will also need to have their counselor write a narrative including details on the change the student has undergone. No application to fill out. Will only need to fax, email or mail essay to Utah Valley Exchange Club c/o Tara Riddle by the Deadline: April 5, 2010. UVU Keys to Success Scholarship: All seniors who have been awarded a Key Card are eligible to apply for this $1,000 scholarship to UVU. Applicants must submit a one page personal statement and letter of recommendation by the Deadline: April 14, 2010. Applications can be picked up from and returned to Mrs. Miller in the Counseling Center or Ms. Zirbes in the Main Office.

Alexander Hamilton Citizenship Achievement Award: This scholarship is for juniors only. Will be judged on participation in service to school and community, scholastic acumen, entrepreneurial skill, and personal achievement. Top winners will receive $500, leadership training for a year culminating in an all expenses paid leadership week in Seattle, Washington in June 2011 and Guatemala 2012. For more information and/or applications see www.hamiltonfriends.org or the Career Center Scholarship files. Deadline: April 16, 2010.

2010 Student-View Scholarship: This is a “random drawing” scholarship for seniors. There is no minimum SAT/ACT score or GPA, no essay to write, no lengthy application forms and no application fees. Instead, you only need to go online at www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey. The six scholarship awards range from $500 - $4,000. To learn more about the company who administers this scholarship, go to www.studentinsights.com. Deadline: April 22, 2010.

Ayn Rand "The Fountainhead" Essay Contest: For 11th and 12th grade students. Prize awards vary from $50 to $10,000. Choose from three topics regarding the book, "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand.  Write an essay no fewer than 800 to no more than 1,600 words. For more information see Career Center Scholarship files or Mrs. Miller or to submit essay along w/other information online go to www.aynrand.org/contests.  Applications by mail must be postmarked by Deadline: April 26, 2010. 

Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholarship: Must be a Utah County and U.S.  resident graduating from high school with minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, minimum ACT score of 27 and planning to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering program to be eligible to apply for this $10,000 scholarship. Will need to also submit, by mail, a copy of online submitted application, 500 word essay on career goals, official HS transcript, and three letters of recommendation. Unity Awards Scholarship: For graduating seniors who qualify for free or reduced lunch, with a 2.5 GPA or higher, a consistent after-school work history, evidence of good citizenship and promotion of the values of unity, civility and respect for others, been accepted at for post-secondary education, one letter of support from a teacher, employer, or religious leader and one detailed letter of information. Timpanogos Regional Hospital Volunteer Aux. Health Career Scholarship: Two $500 scholarships for graduating seniors going into the health care field. Must write a 200 word or less essay describing health career goals, attach a letter of recommendation, a completed teacher evaluation, a transcript and a recent photograph. For applications see the Career Center Scholarship files. Submit required items to Timpanogos Regional Hospital on or before the Deadline: May 1, 2010.

LJ Cooper $1,000 UVU Scholarship Award: This award is for graduating high school seniors living in Utah County. Must complete the Utah State GFL (General Financial Literacy) course with no less than an “A-” grade, take and pass with at least a 95% or better score on the Utah State GFL exam or the National GFL Challenge Exam, if available, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. If not available, may submit essay found on application by mail or email (in pdf format) with other required documents. Applications  to be submitted between May 1-June15, 2010 and not before. No applications accepted before May 1st. Award will be paid directly to UVU for the students use. See the Scholarship Files for more information and applications

Timpanogos PTSA Scholarships: The PTSA offers three scholarships for graduating students of THS who are members of PTSA who will be entering college during the summer or fall of 2010.  (1) PTSA Debbie Crowther Service Scholarship for $600 requires 100 or more verified hour of service, (2) PTSA Future Educator Scholarship for $350 requires student to be going into education with plans of teaching and, (3) PTSA General Scholarship for $350.  Applications are in the Career Center Scholarship files. Submit completed applications to Mrs. Miller in the Counseling Center by the Deadline: May 7, 2010.

Western AgCredit Scholarships: Western AgCredit provides several $1,000 scholarships for Western AgCredit Union members, Utah FFA Association members, BYUI and USU agriculture students. See www.westernagcredit.com, > "Features & Events" for more information and applications. Deadlines vary from February 15 to May 30, 2010.

Rocky Mountain Gas Association Scholarship: For graduating senior interested in a career in the HVACR industry. One $4,000 and two $2000 scholarships to be awarded to recipients based on academic record, financial need, extracurricular and community activities, and short statement on interest and goals. Must maintain 2.5 GPA or higher, include a transcript, appraisal form by counselor and one letter of recommendation with completed application. See www.utrmga.org for applications and details or the Career Center Scholarship files. Deadline: June 1, 2010.

BigSun Scholarship 2009: A $500 scholarship award for one deserving student athlete, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Must complete a short essay answering the question: "How has your participation in sports affected the person you are becoming?" For more details see www.bigsunathletics.com. All essays submissions should be sent to: athleticawards@bigsunathletics.com by the Deadline: June 24, 2010.

W Ketchup/Freedom Alliance Scholarship: This scholarship honors Americans in our Armed Forces who have sacrificed life or limb defending our country by providing educational scholarships for their children. Eligibility includes being a dependent child of an active duty service member who was killed or permanently disabled (100% VA rating) as the result of an operational mission or training accident, or who is currently certified as POW or MIA. Applicant must be high school senior, high school graduate or currently enrolled in post-high school institution and younger than 26 at time of application. Award amounts vary according to student’s financial need, essay, grades and Service Members qualification. In years past, $2.5 million in scholarship monies have been awarded. Must submit completed application online and also mail it with all required packet items. For more information see: http://www.fascholarship.com/, the Career Center Scholarship files or Mrs. Miller. Deadline: July 31, 2010 (All new applicants that submit their entire application and all Freedom Alliance enrollment verification forms by June 30, 2010 will receive a $25.00 Visa gift card to use towards the purchase of books).

AES Engineers Scholarship: This award is available to high school seniors and all students attending a post secondary educational facility. Students will submit an essay on one of the two topics that appear on the "scholarship" page at www.aesengineers.com/scholarships.htm. AES Engineering Solutions will be awarding $500 to the winner.  Deadline: October 8, 2010.

UVU Mechatronic Scholarships: The College of Technology and Computing at UVU still has almost thirty $4000/year scholarships for students entering the Mechatronics Technology AAS degree program for 2009-2010 school year. Must be a US citizen with a 2.5 GPA or higher and be ready to enroll in College Algebra (Math 1050 at UVU) during freshman year. After achieving an AAS degree in Mechatronics at UVU a student can continue on to a BS degree in Technology Management with a Mechatronics emphasis using if not all, almost all 69 credits (from the AAS Mechatronics degree) towards it. To apply for this scholarship, applicant must first apply and be admitted to UVU declaring their major to be Mechatronics Technology. Then apply on line at uvlink.uvu.edu/cp/home/loginf. There is no deadline for this scholarship. When the money runs out, the scholarships will stop being awarded.  

Navy ROTC Scholarship: These scholarships are valued at  up to $180,000 each, depending on the school selected, and can be used at over 160 of the top colleges and universities across the United States. They cover full tuition, books, fees, uniforms, and a monthly stipend of up to $400 for a bachelor degree. Get your applications in early to have the best chance of receiving scholarship as the selections board convenes in August 2010.  Deadline: January 31, 2011. Be sure to submit applications early.

DFW International/Guide to Scholarships for New Americans and Minorities: In 2009, Dallas-Fort Worth International Community Alliance created this excellent website: www.dfwinternational.org/resource_center/Scholarship_Guide.pdf. It’s not only excellent information for new Americans and minorities, but is also excellent for anyone pursing a post high school education. This website helps in preparing for college by offering a timeline for high school students plus information regarding college prep curriculum and tests for college admission.  It gives information on how to enroll in college including how to select a school, types of colleges and college applications. There’s also a section on financial aid including the FAFSA, scholarships, loans and other informational resources. A directory of scholarships including scholarships for international study is at the end. This is well worth reading, especially during your freshman year of high school, but is valuable information to read even during your senior year.

Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund General Scholarships: Various general scholarships put together by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. See http://www.maldef.org/pdf/Scholarships.pdf for a list of the many scholarships available. Contact each scholarship provider for applications and details about updated requirements and deadlines.

Creative Web Design Scholarship:  Are you a senior who enjoys designing web sites with ease? Are you looking for help in doing so?  Then this scholarship is for you! No Deadline for this scholarship. U.S. Army ROTC Scholarship (Utah State): This scholarship criteria includes a 3.0 GPA or higher, an ACT score of 21 or higher, played on team sports in high school or excelled on a recreational team, been involved in student government, clubs at school, church responsibilities and scouting or volunteer organizations. Western Wyoming Community College Senior Day 2010: WWCC will be hosting their Senior Day 2010 on Wednesday, March 24th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. This program is designed to give students an in-depth look at WWCC. SCERA Volunteer Openings: The SCERA is looking for mature student volunteers to help share their enthusiasm at the SHELL Outdoor Theater and/or indoor SCERA Center. Volunteer jobs include ticket taking and sells, ushering, and concession sells. Time commitment is approximately 2-4 hours/week; daytime and evening shifts available. Westeminster College Experience Camps: Westminster College is offering several exciting summer youth camps including: academic, residential camps in aviation, robotics, finance and creative writing. College credit and limited financial support is available for students entering 11-12th grade. Westminster College is also offering Camp Great Salt Lake, Outdoor Recreation and athletic camps exposing students to possible career paths, college majors and college life in a safe and collaborative learning environment. 2010 Utah NAME Annual Conference: narratives of bravery & hope: embracing diversity in utah: This conference sponsored by the Utah Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education is being held at Westminster College on Friday and Saturday March 26th and 27th. There will be a keynote speaker and two invited presenters. A light meal on Friday and a continental breakfast on Saturday are included in the conference fee, plus several $1,000 scholarships offered to qualified applicants (see NEW SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS above). Expanding Your Horizons @ UVU: Expanding Your Horizons is an exciting conference on Saturday, March 6, 2010 for 6-12th grade girls. Here they will explore educational opportunities and careers in math, science and technology! The girls will be able to choose three hands-on workshops, all presented by professional women in those fields. In addition, girls will be able to explore interactive booths where they can play with lasers, high-tech equipment and much more! Update: A new workshop has been added to the list called "Clinical Laboratory Science." Clinical Laboratory Scientists perform behind-the-scene lab procedures that physicians rely on to diagnose and treat patients. If interested, put "43" on the Workshop Selection. Parents will be able to attend specialized workshops on how to help girls succeed in their education, career and life. A $25 registration fee required. U of U Communication Day: The Department of Communications at U of U invites students and parents to their 2nd annual Communication Day, Saturday March 27, 2010 from 9am-1pm. This opportunity for students interested in the Communication field to meet professors, students and take a tour of the facilities is also free. USU Engineering State: This program, held at USU June 7-10, 2010, is a fantastic opportunity for all high school juniors who are university bound, with a high interest in math and science, and interested in engineering as a possible field of study. National Student Leadership Conference: This student conference is for 10th and 11th grade students who maintain a minimum "B" average with demonstrated academic excellence, extracurricular involvement and leadership potential. There are 14 different conference programs from which to choose including, but not limited to: Science, Education, Business, Engineering, Politics, Communications, Medicine, Sports, Law and Theater. The United States Military Academy's 35th Annual Summer Leaders Seminar 2010: This exciting opportunity for high school juniors provides a better understanding of the academic, physical, military, and leadership-development programs at a service academy which are small classes, a caring faculty, professional career preparation, and a foundation for future graduate study. Two sessions offered: May 29th-June 4th and June 5th-11th. Cost is $350/session, excluding transportation to and from West Point. One thousand 11th-graders will be invited who meet the following guidelines: top 5th in high school class, pursuing a college-preparatory curriculum, strong PSAT scores, demonstrated leadership potential by participation, election/selection to office, and honors earned in organized athletic and extracurricular activities. Snow College "Snow Blasts:" For $25 Snow College offers a one night, two day campus visit for senior high school students to come learn what it's like to be a student at Snow.  Stay includes tour of campus, meals, lodging, information & advisement about Snow, tickets to events, and a free Snow T-shirt.  April 16-17 is last day to visit. Washington University High School Young Writers Institute: High school juniors and sophomores with a B or better GPA are eligible to participate in this two week summer course which includes study with working writers, becoming acquainted with the St. Louis literary community, personal conferences, readings, craft talks, open-mike time, and panel discussions. Boston University Summer Term High School Programs:
This summer Boston University (one of the world's top-ranked) offers four summer term programs for high school students. They are: High School Honors, Research Internship in Science & Engineering, Summer Classes, and Summer Preview. Washington University High School Summer Program: High school juniors and sophomores with a B+ or better GPA with an ACT of 25, an SAT of 1800 or a PSAT of 180 are eligible for this five week summer course.  Participants will learn what college courses are like by choosing a couple of colleges courses to take and when completed may earn up to seven college credits. USU Leadership Conference 2010: USU and Utah Association of Student Councils have partnered to provide a leadership training conference for student leaders Spend three days at USU (June 21-23, 2010) learning all about communication, initiative, planning, teamwork, and bringing energy to your school. Activities include a ropes course, aquatic center, hands-on break out sessions, guest speakers, a service project, large group workshops, Spirit Bowl, Aggie Idol and dance. Cost is $200 which includes: room, board (3 meals/day), dance, panoramic picture, conference DVD, training manual, and t-shirt. Gallons for Grades: Eligible students may download their best grade report from the 2009/2010 academic year to Tesoro beginning June 1, 2010 at www.TesoroGallonsFor Grades.com or via mail with appropriate sumission form also found at their website. An "A" average grade earns a $10 Tesoro reward card and an average "B" grade earns a $5 reward card. These may be redeemed for gas, food or merchandise at any participating Tesoro location. Educator.com: An online educational tool that brings together the best and most effective teachers in the country to help answer your questions in school.  Covered areas include high school and university topics in mathematics, science, and computer programming. Video lectures include graphics and ability to pinpoint where your subject of interest is explained. UVU Financial Aid Workshop: UVU will be offering free Financial Aid workshops, every 2nd Thursday throughout the upcoming year. These events will generally be help in a computer lab in the Sorenson Student Center (Rm. 213A) from 6-8  PM. Orem's Junior Miss Scholarship Program: This program is an official local preliminary of the America's Junior Miss scholarship program that awards college scholarships to young women who have distinguished themselves at school and in their communities.  Orem's JM winner will advance to state competition at Utah's JM and that winner competes in the national competition, America's JM, in Mobile, Alabama.  All State Junior Misses will compete for a share of at least $150,000 in cash scholarships.  For details and to apply online, see: www.ajm.org/about/state_programs/utah/local_programs/orem/

Practical Dental Assisting of Utah: Have you ever thought about a career in dentistry? This dental assisting training is a 10 week program taught in a state-of-the-art facility in Lindon by highly trained dental personnel. Students learn by doing, instead of solely listening in class. Classes are held once a week from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm on Friday or Saturday. Tuition is $2995 and  internship hours are available with in-house dentist. Wellesley College Announces New NO-LOAN/LOW-LOAN Financial Aid Policy:  As of 2008-09, Wellesley will eliminate loans for low-income students and reduce or keep loans at their historically low levels for students who qualify. Wellesley will also raise scholarship or grant aid beyond its already generous yearly increases. This plan will eliminate loans for students from families with calculated incomes under $60,000. It will reduce loans by one-third for students from families with calculated incomes between $60,000 and  $100,000. Harvard College Financial Aid Policy:  Since December 2007, Harvard College has implemented a financial aid policy to ensure families with incomes below $60,000 are not asked to contribute to the cost of sending their children to Harvard.  For more information see www.admissions.college.harvard.edu.

Students and parents can also use this site to browse their resource center for information on Financial Aid, housing and what to expect the first year of college.
