NEW SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS (as of May 9, 2008):


Timpanogos PTSA Scholarships:
The PTSA offers three scholarships for graduating students of THS who are members of PTSA who will be entering college during the summer or fall of 2008 (you can still join by paying a membership fee to Mrs. Long in Student Finance). (1) PTSA Debbie Crowther Service Scholarship for $600 requires 100 or more verified hour of service, (2) PTSA Future Educator Scholarship for $350 requires student to be going into education with plans of teaching and (3) PTSA General Scholarship for $350.  Applications are in the Scholarship files in the Career Center
. Submit completed applications to Mrs. Miller in the Counseling Center by the end of school deadline of May 9, 2008.

The Dinah Shore Scholarship:
One $5,000 scholarship for graduating senior girls who is pursuing a college education who played golf during high school or played golf "regularly" for the past two years, but will not be playing on a competitive collegiate golf team. Must submit a completed application, official high school transcript, autobiographical essay and three letters of recommendation. Applications and  information can be found at: www.lpga.com/content_1.aspx?mid=6&pid=55 or see the Scholarship files in the Career Center. Deadline: May 15, 2008.

The Marilynn Smith Scholarship:
Two $3,000 scholarships for graduating senior girls who have played golf in high school or in community junior golf programs, and are planning to play on a competitive collegiate golf team.
Must submit a completed application, official high school transcript, autobiographical essay and three letters of recommendation. Applications and information can be found at: www.lpga.com/content_1.aspx?mid=6&pid=55 or see the Scholarship files in the Career Center. Deadline: May 15, 2008.

The Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship:
One $1,250 need-based scholarship for graduating senior girls from a recognized minority background who played golf during high school and is planning to play competitive golf in college. 
Must submit a completed application, official high school transcript, a copy of student's SAR & EFC reports, autobiographical essay and three letters of recommendation. Ameritech College "The Outstanding Health Student" Scholarship Opportunity: One $1,000 tuition waver scholarship to AmeriTech College is offered to a senior from each high school who is interested in a medical career.  Criteria include filling out an application for scholarship and admissions, a letter stating why a medical career, and a resume listing leadership, academic and citizenship experience.  Applications must be submitted by Deadline: May 15, 2008 and can be found in the Scholarship files in the Career Center or from Mrs. Miller.

Barbizon College Scholarship:  Fill out application at www.barbizonscholarship.com.  Random drawing after end of school year.  Be sure to read Disclaimer and Privacy Policy.  Students must be accepted to the college of their choice based upon individual academic skills and institutional requirements.  Complete rules availabe in any participating Barbizon School.   Deadline: May 30, 2008.

Rocky Mountain Gas Association Scholarship:
For graduating seniors interested in a career in the HVACR industry. One $1,000 and two $500 scholarships to be awarded to recipients based on academic record, financial need, extracurricular and community activities, and short statement on interest and goals. Must maintain 2.5 GPA or higher, include a transcript, appraisal form by counselor and one letter of recommendation with completed application. Stuck at Prom Duct Tape Scholarship Contest: For "couples" 14 years of age or older. Each couple must attend a high school prom held in the spring of 2008, wearing complete attire or accessories made from duct tape. Each couple must submit a picture in their completed prom duct tape attire. First place couple receives $3,000 each, second place couple receives $2,000 each, and third place couple receives $1,000 each. Go to www.stuckatprom.com for complete details and information or see Mrs. Miller in Counseling. Deadline: June 11, 2008.

Key Bank Scholarship: This is a simple and easy scholarship to earn $2,500 for college; no GPA or essay requirements. High school juniors and seniors or their parents can go online at key.com/signup to apply. Can apply once every week from now until the final day of deadline: August 31, 2008.

Heber J. Grant Scholarship and Mentor Program:
Students accepted at BYU Idaho may apply for this scholarship if they have financial need or other disadvantages to overcome.  Two short essays about disadvantages and a list and explanation of the students awards, achievements, service and leadership opportunities is required along with bio/personal info, ACT/SAT scores and high school cumulative GPA.  See www.byui.edu/heberjgrant for more information and application deadlines or Mrs. Miller.  The mentor program is free and for anyone 13 years and older who qualify. Apply by emailing heberjgrant@byui.edu.  BYU Idaho students who have had to overcome similar disadvantages are the mentors who run the mentor program.  Deadline: Nov. 1 - June 1 - Fall Semester.

Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund General Scholarships:
Various general scholarships put together by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. See http://www.maldef.org/pdf/Scholarships.pdf for a list of the many scholarships available. Contact each scholarship provider for applications and details about updated requirements and deadlines.

U.S. Army ROTC Scholarship (Utah State): This scholarship criteria includes a 3.0 GPA or higher, an ACT score of 21 or higher, played on team sports in high school or excelled on a recreational team, been involved in student government, clubs at school, church responsibilities and scouting or volunteer organizations. OTHER OPPORTUNITIES:

BYU  Soar 2008: Rise to New Heights:  
BYU's Multicultural Student Services offers three five-day sessions of Soar between June 23rd and July 19th.  Among other things, ACT preparation and exam, BYU admissions information and assistance, leadership training, and financial aid and scholarship information is presented. To qualify you must have completed your junior year of high school, have at least a 3.2 GPA and be a US citizen.  The cost is $275 and covers housing, meals, materials, activities, ACT classes and test, and a T-shirt. Neumont University: Neumont University, which is located south of Salt Lake City, Utah, was founded to revolutionize Computer Science education through a program that blends science and theory with relevant hands-on learning.  You can check them out at www.neumont.edu.  They are offering a High School Technology Scholarship for high school seniors graduating in the current academic year with an interest in Computer Science who have shown high academic achievement.  One student per high school will be selected based on their Scholarship application and letter of recommendation from a high school technology instructor. UVSC (UVU) Be Your Own Boss Summer Camp:  This is "The Ultimate High School Entrepreneur Camp" being held June 9-13, 2008 presented by UVSC Entrepreneur Institute and Woodbury School of Business.  Registration begins February 1, 2008.  The camp tuition is $189, but full tuition is free to the first 20 to register and is limited to 50 students.  This is a unique opportunity to not only learn about business, but to actually do business.  The camp includes mentoring by young entrepreneurs, skill building activities, networking opportunities, motivational speakers and more!  All who attend have the unique opportunity to win a one-year UVSC (UVU) tuition scholarship.  For more information and/or to register online, please visit www.uvsc.edu/beyourownboss or Mrs. Miller in Counseling.

Wellesley College Announces New NO-LOAN/LOW-LOAN Financial Aid Policy:  As of 2008-09, Wellesley will eliminate loans for low-income students and reduce or keep loans at their historically low levels for students who qualify. Wellesley will also raise scholarship or grant aid beyound its already generous yearly increases. This plan will eliminate loans for students from families with calculated incomes under $60,000. It will reduce loans by one-third for studnets from families with calculated incomes between $60,000 and  $100,000. From Marshall University:  Marshal University offers the new "Online College Courses in the High School Program" for students who want the opportunity to jump-start thier college careers earning University credit totally online.  High school students receive a special discounted rate of $366 for an online three-hour course.  Marshall recently hosted a 30 minute webinar on their OCCHS Program that can be viewed by typing into a browser: http://mubreeze01.marshall.edu/p52149439/.  For more information see Mrs. Miller or go to: www.marshall.edu/occhs.
