It’s not only excellent information for new Americans and minorities, but is also excellent for anyone pursing a post high school education. This website helps in preparing for college by offering a timeline for high school students plus information regarding college prep curriculum and tests for college admission. It gives information on how to enroll in college including how to select a school, types of colleges and college applications. There’s also a section on financial aid including the FAFSA, scholarships, loans and other informational resources. A directory of scholarships including scholarships for international study is at the end. UVU Financial Aid Workshop: UVU will be offering free Financial Aid workshops, every 2nd Thursday throughout the upcoming year. Orem's JM winner will advance to state competition at Utah's JM and that winner competes in the national competition, America's JM, in Mobile, Alabama. Practical Dental Assisting of Utah: Have you ever thought about a career in dentistry? Wellesley College Announces New NO-LOAN/LOW-LOAN Financial Aid Policy: As of 2008-09, Wellesley will eliminate loans for low-income students and reduce or keep loans at their historically low levels for students who qualify. Wellesley will also raise scholarship or grant aid beyond its already generous yearly increases. This plan will eliminate loans for students from families with calculated incomes under $60,000. It will reduce loans by one-third for students from families with calculated incomes between $60,000 and $100,000. Harvard College Financial Aid Policy: Since December 2007, Harvard College has implemented a financial aid policy to ensure families with incomes below $60,000 are not asked to contribute to the cost of sending their children to Harvard. Attention Parents of 2009 Graduated & 2010 Graduating Seniors Who've Gone or Will Be Going to College in the Fall: Are you aware of the American Opportunity Tax Credit? A taxpayer who pays qualified tuition and related expenses and whose federal income tax return has a modified adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less ($160,000 or less for joint filers) is eligible for the credit. The AOTC offsets the cost of college by reducing the amount of income tax you owe. It equals 100% of the first $2,000 and 25% of the next $2,000 of qualified expenses for a cap of $2,500. And up to $1,000 of the credit can be refunded to you if your credit is more than the amount of tax you owe. To take advantage of this refund, or to see if you qualify, contact your tax agent or see: www.irs.gov, click on far right “Tax Exempt Bond Community” tab at top, then “Newsroom” button under IRS Resources list at left middle, then on tax article, "Tax Benefits for Education: Information" Be sure to check out the Q & A link in article for more answers.
