Welcome to Orem, Utah. Orem is
nicknamed “Family City, USA”. The city of Orem offers a unique mix of traditional
small-town atmosphere and the region’s strongest retail presence, with one of
the nation’s hottest High-Tech markets. Orem has a number of outdoor, sporting and cultural
opportunities through Brigham Young University, Utah Valley State College,
the Scera Organization and the nearby Sundance Summer Theater. The 8,500-seat McKay Events
Center at Utah Valley State
College hosts additional entertainment, including concerts and sporting
events.

There were 3,958 licensed
businesses in Orem
at the end of 2000. Of those, 2,284 were

As a testament to Orem’s
entrepreneurial spirit, an astounding 814 new businesses were licensed in 2000
alone.
The FBI’s annual Uniform
Crime Report says that the Provo-Orem area has the nation’s second lowest rate of violent crime.

In its 15th Annual
Development Report Card, the Corporation for Enterprise Development rated the
Provo-Orem area in the top ten, with high scores for income distribution, low
rates of heart disease, charitable giving, industrial diversity, new business
job growth, conversion of cropland and households with computers. The area also ranked well in performance,
development capacity, and business vitality.
Orem is consistently ranked in Money
Magazine’s list of “Best Places to Live in America.” The Median Household Income in 2002 was
$23,317.
Close to one-third of Utah County
residents older than 25 have at least a bachelor’s degree, and 91 percent have
obtained a high school diploma, according to results from the 2000 Census. National rates are 25.1% and 81.6%,
respectively. Four local colleges and
universities offer degree programs.
Thirty-one percent of people over age 25 have a bachelor’s degree or
higher. Ninety-one percent of the
population has obtained a high school diploma.
